JORDAN

Jordan is a traveler’s dream introduction to the Middle East. Safe and friendly, the destination gets travelers up close to world wonders and immerses you in world-class hospitality.

From ancient cities and biblical landmarks, to the coral reefs of the Red Sea, Jordan is one of the most captivating countries in the Middle East. It’s home to thousands of archaeological sites including Crusade-era castles, the Roman theatre in Amman, and the rose-red city of Petra, carved from sandstone cliffs over 2,000 years ago. Despite Jordan’s momentous history, it’s one of the most modern countries in the Middle East.

WHERE TO GO

Modern cities filled with worldly citizens, mountainous regions dotted with small villages, and deserts inhabited by the nomadic Bedouin, Jordan has all this diversity and more. With the cosmopolitan cafes of Amman, the peace of hilltop Dana and the historic treasures of Madaba, you may come to Jordan to see the ruins of Petra, but you’ll leave having encountered so much more.

AMMAN

Amman, the capital and the largest city of Jordan, holds a lot of surprises for travelers. The city is a pot of new and old flavors that will keep you intrigued. The sky-high modern buildings blend very well with the ancient culture. You can visit Amman’s Roman Amphitheater, Jordan Museum, Jabal Amman for art galleries, Abdoun for its terrific nightlife, shopping malls etc.

PETRA

The best place to visit in Jordan, and now one of the new Seven Wonders of the World, is the ancient city of Petra. Also known as the Red City or the Rose City, Petra was once the capital of the Nabataean Kingdom before becoming part of the Roman Empire. Today, a visit to Petra allows you to tour the ancient archeological park, entering through the sandstone canyon known as Siq.

AQABA

Other than the Dead Sea, the only waterfront in Jordan is found in Aqaba, the nation’s only port city. Aqaba is sometimes called the window onto the Red Sea, and it has long been an important destination for the country. Aqaba has a unique blend of ancient and modern, allowing you to tour the 14th century Aqaba Fort or stay in luxurious, five-star resorts.

JERSAH

Jerash, however, is home to an incredible collection of Greco-Roman ruins. Touring Jerash today means being able to see landmarks like Hadrian’s Arch, which dates back to the second century, and the Hippodrome, which has the unique classification of being one of the smallest Roman hippodromes ever constructed.

AL KARAK

If you’re interested in castles, then Al-Karak is definitely worth a visit. The city of Al-Karak, also known as just Karak or Kerak, is located in Southern Jordan. It is known for its significant Christian population as well as its amazing castle. Al-Karak is home to the Citadel of Kerak, which was once a Crusader stronghold.

 MADABA

Madaba, a small town known for its religious structures and its ancient art. Most notably, it is known for the Madaba Map, a mosaic from the sixth century that shows a map of Jerusalem and other holy sites. You can visit the Madaba Archaeological Park as well as the Madaba Museum if you’re interested in the history of Madaba.

WHAT TO DO

Jordan is not solely rooted in the past. Its hilly capital, Amman, brims with bustling restaurants and cafés, swanky shopping, and impressive art galleries. Then, there’s the Dead Sea, where you can kick up your feet after days of sightseeing and dig in to some much-needed pampering at the many luxe waterfront resorts.

DESERT CASTLES

In Jordan’s Eastern Desert, just east of Amman, there is a collection of castles that can be explored. These structures were constructed by the Umayyads, and many were used for defense as well as a place for the Kaliffs to stay. It was through this network of castles that the Umayyads were able to live and thrive in the unforgiving desert landscape.

DEAD SEA

Although most of Jordan is landlocked, it does share one small piece of coast with the Dead Sea. Visitors come here to seek its mineral-rich mud that is known for its therapeutic properties. You’ll be amazed to know that this mud is also used while making cosmetics, and it is sold at huge prices due to its vivid benefits.

KARAK CASTLE

This castle is hailed as one of the largest castles in Jordan with immense fortifications,  dungeons,  dark chambers, and arched-roof stables to explore. It also has a museum inside its building that brings to life the struggles between sultan Saladin and the Crusaders. It is renowned for the carved inscriptions by the Mamluk soldiers.

BETHANY BEYOND THE JORDAN

This is one of the most popular tourist places in Jordan, where John the Baptist gave baptism to Jesus Christ, reviving the soul of the believers of Christianity and turning Jordan River into holy water. You can see here the scattered ruins of churches, chapels, and monasteries. The nearby shrines and churches also attract the tourists here.

MA’IN HOT SPRINGS

Ma’in Hot Springs consists of a series of waterfalls and mineral springs located between the Dead Sea and Madaba. These springs are located around 246 m below sea level and are considered to be one of the breathtaking desert oases in the entire world. Thousands of visitors come here each year to enjoy the mineral-rich water of these thermal waterfalls.

ROMAN THEATRE

When it comes to things to do in Amman, swinging by the Roman Theater is high on the list and for good reason. The antique attraction perfectly blends historic Jordanian heritage with the city’s vibrant modern-day life. Today, the Roman Theater hosts some of Amman’s most important cultural events, including summer concerts and plays.
