TAJIKISTAN

Tajikistan is the smallest country in Central Asia and is known for being the land of the high Pamir Mountains.

Tajikistan is popular among adventure travellers. Around half of its land lies at 3000 meters above sea level or more. It is known for its incredible panorama, beautiful mountains, bustling and unique metropolis, and scenic lakes. This central Asian country has no coastlines, but nature has blessed it with mountain beauty.

WHERE TO GO

The term ‘predominantly mountainous’ doesn’t do justice to a country where over 90% of the land is upland. Tajikistan has a whole lot of admirable attractions that are sure to impress. Lush meadows, glaciers, the Pamir Highway, and the grandiose mountains and rivers make this country heaven for adventure travellers.

DUSHANBE

Dushanbe is the largest city as well as the cultural, political and economic heart of the country. Its center contains one of the world’s tallest flagpoles. There’s plenty of modern and Soviet architecture to admire as well as myriad and museums.

KHUJAND

The historic city of Khujand was founded in the VII-VI centuries BC. Later, Alexander the Great captured, remodelled and fortified the city. Today, Khujand is a centre of Tajikistan’s industrial, scientific, and cultural developments.

MURGHAB

Murghab is located at an altitude of 3618 meters above sea level.  At this height, above the tree line and surrounded by high mountains, it is an interesting place to visit.  Most people here are ethnic Kyrgyz, a minority group in Tajikistan.

PAMIR HIGHWAY

The route going through the Pamir Mountains has been in use for millennia as a part of the ancient Silk Road. Pamir Highway is one of the most dangerous and adventurous route in the world. Travelling on the second highest highway in the world can be the trip of the lifetime. 

ZERAVSHAN VALLEY

Literal meaning of word Zeravshan in Tajik is Golden River. The Zeravshan valley receives water from Zerivshan river which crosses the valley. The valley is quite beautiful because this area is unique with its mountain landscape and it’s beautiful lakes. 

WAKHAN VALLEY

Once a hotspot between colonial rulers Britain and Tsarist Russia, today the Wakhan is a peaceful valley.  Visit the ruins of the Yamchun fortress built in the 12th century and take a dip in the hot springs of Bibi Khanum.

WHAT TO DO

Explore the multi-hued lakes, peaks that beg to be climbed and high passes that thrill even reluctant travelers. In among this natural splendor are scattered villages and towns that survive cheek-by-jowl through each extreme season.

ISKANDERKUL LAKE

Iskanderkul Lake is an excellent place for outdoor activities such as hiking, camping, and swimming. It is sandwiched between the beautiful Fann Mountains and is one of the largest glacial lakes in north-west Tajikistan.

JISEV VALLEY HIKING

Jisev Valley is one of Tajikistan’s best short hikes that will take you to a lovely mountain village set along a chain of seasonally overflowing lakes. Being popular for hiking with high rugged mountains in a deep valley, small forests and beautiful lakes, Jisev is a community of a few houses.

NATIONAL MUSEUM OF TAJIKISTAN

The National Museum of Tajikistan is a museum in Dushanbe, the capital city of Tajikistan. The National Museum of Tajikistan is made out of four show divisions: Department of Natural History, Ancient and Medieval History, Modern and Contemporary History and the last Fine and Applied Arts.

HISOR FORT

Hisor Fortress is found 26 km from Dushanbe. The fortress is an open-air Museum The structure has experienced various reproductions, redesigns, and increments. The Hisor Fort that remains there today little looks like the old Hisor Fort that has generally occupied the land.

AYNI OPERA & BALLET THEATRE

The nation’s leading musical theater, Ayni Opera and Ballet Theater was built in 1946 and is a classic example of Stalinist design. It has numerous exhibitions and plays. The primary Tajik expressive dance was performed here and the way of life at that point began to develop and create.

YASHILKUL TREKKING

High altitude trekking for three to four days starting from Bachor village is an excellent opportunity to enjoy the lonely beauty of the mountains. The path follows the steep slopes to Lake Yashilkul and rewards with an amazing view over the valley.
